For years now I've tried to keep my nails perfectly filed, impeccably chip free and above all fabulously polished! So one day I thought to myself...hang on a second?? After whiling away the hours absorbing all the latest nail trends from the likes of Scrangie, All Lacquered Up, Lacquerized and so many more, why don't I try writing my own blog? With my coloured skin and penchant for all polishes weird and wonderful, maybe I could hit a real niche here right? So with a bit of time on my hands, and polish on my nails (of course)...here it is! My first real blog! So enjoy and please don't be shy on suggestions, I am a newbie to this blogging thing after all!!!

I Can Paint a Rainbow

J is for Jade...

For me, a 'jade' is anything that blurs the boundary between blue and green and luckily for me colours such as these suit me just fine! I have included a selection of shades, ranging from pastel to full on bright so there is definitely one for everyone. I have to say these polishes really pop against darker skin tones but can look equally nice against porcelain skin so I hope you approve...

Let's start off with a lovely glitter shall we? To my surprise, I actually received this in a Nails Inc Lucky Dip and I was more than pleased! It is so full of glitter that you only really need two coats. I would say that it verges more onto the blue side, perhaps slightly turquoise. It reminds me of a shimmering sea, perfect for summer days!

This is one of my all time favourites! Something about this shade looks so lovely, any time of year, and it really is a suits all kind of colour. I could probably think of a million nice things to say about this polish but I don't want to bore you! Anyway it's a must have!

This one is quite similar to Maybelline's Metal Me Teal which I included in the 'Indigo' category however it is slightly lighter in tone. It is a nice jewel color and full of shimmer so for those of you that love sparkly nails, this is a winner!

Rimmel Sky High

Strangely this one appears to be a medium blue in the images however I can assure you that it definitely contains a splash of green, making it appear more teal-like in real life. It's a lovely subdued colour, perfect for spring.

I have come to realise that green can be a bit hit and miss on nails, with some people demanding to know the name of the polish and others saying that it makes me look ill! This one is very similar to Nails Inc Culross Street in the images but on the nails, although you can't really see it in the photos, it does contain a touch more blue which is why I chose to include it here. Make of it what you will.

I Can Paint a Rainbow...

I is for Indigo...

To be completely honest, I've used this colour category to cover the majority of the blue polishes I own, of which there are not many! I am really not a fan of blue polishes, with a few exceptions yet to be featured, and I think that is because they just don't sit quite right against my skin! Unfortunately for this reason they don't really appeal to me however I will leave you all to make up your own minds...

This polish would actually be classed as a cobalt blue and I've had it for quite a while so it has become slightly thick - which you can probably tell from the sloppy application. (My apologies!) Anyway it's a nice creme polish but a bit too sci-fi for my liking!

Bourjois 18

This one is more of a denim blue with a subtle shimmer. It applies nicely and does in fact last the whole ten days but I'm afraid it doesn't really do anything for me.

Maybelline Metal Me Teal!

With Flash

This one is more of a teal blue, as stated in the name, and is loaded with shimmer. I have to admit that perhaps with the right outfit, it could work. With the flash, it is deceptively light and the non flash photo is more true to its real colour.

Rimmel Metal Rush Royal Blue

I bought this because I was intrigued by the promise of being able to 'flip your colour'! Anyway the danger of these two tone polishes is that you have to really look from different angles to see the colours, in this case blue and green, otherwise you find yourself looking at an unattractively dull mix between the two, which you can see in the no flash photo!

I Can Paint a Rainbow...

H is for Henna...

I have to admit, I really had to wrack my brain to think of a suitable colour for 'H' and after researching for a while I came up with two options: 'henna' or 'heliotrope'. Seeing as I have never even heard of the latter, I decided to go with the former and have chosen two reddy browns (almost) which luckily could not be distributed into any other colour categories! Now for those of you that are unaware, henna is the dye usually used on hair or to decorate the hands of indian women for special occasions. It is a lovely, warm , rich colour so I hope you like the polishes I have chosen!

This is a very vampy take on the colour as in real life it does appear almost black. It is a lovely and smooth creme polish so it looks very chic, some may find it boring but hey, each to their own.

This one is anything but boring! To the naked eye it does look like a glittery terracotta and I have absolutely no idea why it appears pink with the flash! Anyway, it is a bold take on the colour and for those so inclined, the glitter really packs a punch!

I Can Paint a Rainbow...

G is for Grey...

With the greens mainly out of the way, there was only one other possibility for this letter! Grey! I'm sensing a lack of enthusiasm... Ok, I admit it's not the most exciting colour but the right shade can look really edgy and like nude, you tend not to have the issue of an outfit colour clash. See what you think...

This is a very dark, almost-black grey with a metallic shimmer. It's definitely edgy and not for the girly girl. It may be a little too grungey for some but I think its a cool way to toughen up a modest outfit.

This creme polish is a warmer grey and therefore more muted. It's perfect for everyday wear due to the lack of shimmer which can sometimes make your nails look a bit too party-ish.

Another creme polish, but this one is lighter in tone. I love how these creme Nails inc polishes are so shiny because it makes them look really expensive. Perhaps a little too cold for my liking though.

I Can Paint a Rainbow...

F is for Fuchsia...

The ultimate 'happy' colour, a fuchsia pink is sure to brighten up anyones day! Although you may think that this colour should be reserved for the under 16s only, I can assure you that it can look as classy and elegant as any other. I have to admit that I do have to be in the mood to wear fuchsia, and this is often during the peak of summer, because it can be quite difficult to coordinate an outfit around (admittedly due to my lack of brightly coloured clothing), however once on there really is no colour more fun!

Bourjois Fuchsia Hype

With Flash

You may be tempted to label this a red rather than a fuchsia, but it does have a hot pink undertone which I believe earns its place among the others. It is a rich creme polish with no shimmer, and this feature is what keeps them out
of teen territory!

Maybelline Really Rosy

This one is more demure and less sharp than the Bourjois polish, so perhaps a good way to ease yourself into this colour palette.
It applies beautifully and lasts for days, what more could you want?

Topshop Nails Paint It On

This was one of the first Topshop polishes I bought and so it is quite old and no longer the smoothest to apply. However I think it is unique from the other two in that it contains more of a magenta hue, that places it firmly in the jewel tone colour category!

Nails Inc China Town

This one is definitely more of a bubblegum pink! The shimmer adds depth but is noticeable so it is quite a youthful colour and can be quite tricky to pull off, but it is the epitomy of a pure fuchsia pink!

Nails Inc Montrose Place

This one is more of a pearlescent polish with a slightly cooler tone to the other Nails Inc polish. Due to its pearly finish, the shimmer is very visible which can make it appear slightly cheap looking. Not my favourite but that is simply down to      personal preference.

In my opinion, saving the best till last, this is a true vivid fuchsia pink. I love the fact that it sparkles without a trace of shimmer. Definitely one of the highlights of my Nails Inc Mini collection!

I Can Paint a Rainbow...

E is for Emerald...

Sticking with the theme of green polishes, these next two are refreshingly lighter in hue yet still as delightfully weird! I have to admit that I've never actually worn these polishes out but maybe one day when I'm feeling more adventurous they might just see the light of day! I am a sucker for glitter polishes, expecially during the festive period, so I'm thinking this first one might just make an appearance next christmas!

Taking inspiration from The Wizard of Oz, this one is definitely as magical and whimsical as the film itself! I love these full on glitters and this one actually photographs much more blue than it actually is. Like I've previously mentioned, the only downside to glitter polishes is the removal and unfortunately this one is no magic exception!

This one was sent to me in a lucky dip - a promotion that Nails Inc runs every so often where they send you 6 randomly selected polishes for £15! Usually they're quite standard and nothing really to write home about but now and then you receive some real gems like this one! I think this minty emerald is lovely and surprisingly wearable.

I Can Paint a Rainbow...

D is for Dark Green...

Ok so these two polishes didn't really fit under any other colour category so I was forced to make one just for them! Both of these polishes were acquired in gift sets so I didn't intentionally go out of my way to buy them but they are always good to have in polish emergencies!! You never know, dark green may just be the 'It' colour of next fall! Yeh I don't think so either..anyway I promised to show you every colour of my collection, warts and all, so for those of you that are partial to nails that could rival those of the wicked witch of the west, enjoy...

Topshop Nails Beyond The Sea

I would describe this polish as a dark greeny teal but when the light hits it, it really done shine like a forest green! The formula isn't the best but it is a nice, unusual, vivid colour and maybe paired with the right outfit, it would look really stunning.

OPI Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow

This one definitely sits on the other side of the spectrum as a warm-toned green, in real life though it does appear like an almost black and it's true jewel toned colour is only revealed with the flash. Perhaps a bit too christmassy for me though!
